Local Support Empowers Growing Families

Bringing home a new baby is one of life’s most meaningful experiences. It can also bring new questions, routines, and moments when families need trusted support close to home.

At Okeechobee Healthy Start Coalition, we believe every family deserves access to the information, resources, referrals, and caring professionals who help families feel informed, prepared, and supported. Through our no-cost, voluntary Home Visitation Program, expecting parents and families with children up to age three receive personalized support from caring professionals who meet families where they are.

Home Visitors provide education and guidance on healthy pregnancy practices, childbirth preparation, infant care, breastfeeding, safe sleep, child development, nutrition, and parenting skills. Families can also receive access to care coordination, community referrals, and connections to resources based on their needs, goals, and strengths. 

Care plans are thoughtfully crafted and personalized for each family, depending on their needs as well as their strengths. One of our program facilitators shared a glimpse into the positive difference these home visits can make: “During one of my regular visits, I noticed a mom was having a hard time sticking to her baby’s sleep routine. We worked together over a few weeks to build a simple, consistent bedtime plan. Last week, she proudly told me her baby now sleeps through the night—and she’s finally getting some rest, too. It was a reminder that small, steady changes can make a huge difference in a family's daily life.”

For families in rural communities like Okeechobee, accessing prenatal care and maternal health services can sometimes require significant travel. Okeechobee Healthy Start Coalition is committed to expanding access to local support that helps bridge those gaps and ensures families have the tools they need close to home. By bringing services directly to families, the Home Visitation Program creates opportunities for parents to build confidence, strengthen their support networks, and prepare for the future they envision for their children.
