Pregnancy and the early years of parenting are times of incredible growth, learning, and change. Having access to reliable support during this season can make a meaningful difference for both parents and children. Healthy Start Coalition of Okeechobee (HS) exists to ensure families in Okeechobee County have the resources, education, and connections they need to thrive from pregnancy through early childhood.
HS plays a critical role in bridging gaps in access to maternal and child health services in a rural community where care can be difficult to reach. By coordinating services and working closely with local community leaders and service partners, OHS helps ensure expecting parents and families with babies and toddlers are not navigating this journey alone.
Through a range of programs, HS supports families holistically, recognizing that health, stability, and confidence are deeply connected. Services include care coordination, home visiting programs, parenting education and group-based support, and connections to prenatal and postpartum care. Families can also receive guidance on infant safety, child development, breastfeeding, and navigating the health care system, all tailored to meet them where they are.
HS’s approach is rooted in respect for families’ strengths and experiences. Parents are supported as capable caregivers and empowered with information and tools that help them make informed choices. By focusing on both immediate needs and long-term well-being, OHS helps lay the foundation for healthy pregnancies, positive birth experiences, and strong early childhood development.
Healthy Start Coalition of Okeechobee is more than a service provider. It is a community partner invested in the healthy and happy growth of families across Okeechobee County. By walking alongside parents during pregnancy and the early years, HS helps families build a strong start that supports children today and for years to come.
