In our close-knit community, children thrive in the presence of supportive, engaged, and active adult role models. Okeechobee fathers and father figures are heeding this call to action with the guidance of T.E.A.M. Dad, an educational support program available through Okeechobee Healthy Start Coalition.
Research from the American Academy of Pediatrics shows that having an active father or father figure benefits a child’s emotional development, improves their social skills, leads to better academic achievement, and aids overall cognitive development – particularly in early childhood, when foundational learning is rapidly developing. Similarly, studies of family systems emphasize that children benefit most when fathers are consistently involved in nurturing, play, and everyday caregiving routines that support learning and connection.
Father figures, mentors, and other supportive male role models can provide stability, guidance, and emotional support that contribute to a child’s sense of security and identity.
At OHSC, our T.E.A.M. Dad program equips dads of every kind to show up consistently and meaningfully in their children’s lives. Led by a dedicated fatherhood educator, the program creates space for dads to connect, learn, and grow, offering guidance on co-parenting, child development, workforce development, and healthy family relationships.
When fathers are supported and their efforts acknowledged, children benefit. And when children benefit, entire communities grow stronger.
Help OHSC invest in families’ strengths and build pathways for long-term success across generations. Please consider donating to support T.E.A.M. Dad today: https://givebutter.com/okeehealthystart
